Who Was Apollos?
Connecting top-tier talent with Atlanta’s leading organizations through trusted, relationship-driven search
Apollos appears in the New Testament as a contemporary of the Apostle Paul.
The earliest known Alexandrian follower of Christ, “Apollos, was a gifted devotee of Jesus, a recruiter confident enough to move out of Alexandria, to “colonize” major cities such as Ephesus and Corinth with his version of the Gospel.”
He was known as an eloquent, thoughtful, and well-educated man—someone who understood Scripture and was committed to helping others understand it as well.
But what stands out most is not his ability, but his posture.
The Story
In the book of First Epistle to the Corinthians, Paul describes Apollos in a way that has guided us:
“What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” 1 Cor 3:5 - 7
It’s a simple idea, but a powerful one.
Each person has a role to play—contributing where they can—but ultimately trusting that God is the one who brings things together and allows them to grow.
What That Means
That perspective shaped how Apollos Partners was built.
It reflects a belief that:
- We are not here to control outcomes
- We are here to contribute thoughtfully
- We are here to water what you have planted
- To bring clarity, perspective, and care to the process
- We are here to go out and share your story with passion and conviction
- To advocate with passion from a place of knowledge and humility
- And to trust that the right outcomes will come together in the right way
In our work, that means approaching each search with discipline and intention—while recognizing that timing, alignment, and opportunity often come together in ways we don’t fully control.
Faith
For us, this is not just a professional philosophy—it’s rooted in faith.
There is a level of trust in knowing that we can do the work in front of us, serve people well, and still recognize that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
That belief has guided how I’ve approached this business from the beginning.
How will we will be til the end.
Apollos isn’t a household name like Paul, and the reference may go unnoticed by many.
But for those who choose to look a little deeper, it reflects a way of thinking about work, relationships, and responsibility that continues to shape how we operate every day.
We pray it is a way you (and God) will approve.
